Case Study
Closed-circuit pump retrofit for a concrete mixer drum drive
Replacing an ageing drum drive with a closed-circuit piston pump and matched motor, keeping the existing gearbox interface.
Project Details
Project Overview
Scope. A fleet operator needed to keep mixer drums running while the original drum drive was no longer supported.
Requirements
- Closed-circuit piston pump with charge pump
- Matched motor retaining the existing gearbox flange
- Drum speed range unchanged in both directions
- Service access without removing the drum
Approach
The pump and motor were selected from the drum torque and speed requirement, then the motor flange was machined to the existing gearbox interface so the drum did not need to be removed. Flushing and filtration were specified with the retrofit.
Result
The drum behaviour is unchanged for the operator, and the drive can now be serviced from the access panel. The same kit is used across the operator's fleet of mixers.
