Boom and bucket cylinder programme for a 30-ton excavator
Project Details

Project Overview

Scope. Three cylinder positions on a 30-ton excavator: boom, arm and bucket. The machine builder needed a single supplier for all three, with one seal kit shared across the range to simplify service stock.

Requirements

  • Bore 120–150 mm, stroke 1150–1420 mm
  • Working pressure 350 bar, peak 420 bar
  • Clevis and trunnion mountings to the existing pin dimensions
  • Hard chrome rod with wiper and dust seal for dusty site conditions

Approach

Drawings were reviewed against the machine envelope first, then a common rod and seal family was defined so the three cylinders share service parts. Prototypes were supplied for bench and field trials before the series order was released.

Result

One seal kit now covers all three positions, and cylinder replacement on site follows a single procedure. Series delivery is scheduled against the builder's assembly line rather than a fixed stock quantity.
